Residents have five minutes at Wednesday evening meetings to address Canfield City Council

CANFIELD
Canfield City Council members established a five-minute time limit for residents to speak before council on general topics during regular meetings.
For comments on old or new business items, however, people who speak have three minutes each – with only 30 minutes total before council reserves the right to move on.
Frank Micchia, a regular resident speaker, said he was glad to see the issue addressed and resolved with a solution that applies to everyone.
“In the past, council has varied the time limit based on their whim at the time and depending on whether or not they wanted to hear what was being presented,” he said.
In other business, council approved a contract to move forward with the demolition of the home at 33 Kirk St., at a cost of $19,091.
The city will pay the fee until the next owner purchases the property, which is when they will be assessed for that fee.
Council members have continuously declared the residence to be a nuisance property – a property in violation of one or more zoning regulations – for more than two years.
Patricia Bernat, city clerk, said although ordinances take 30 days to go into effect, Safeair Contractors, 9342 Pinecone Drive in Mentor, has the demolition contract and work will start soon.
