Trumbull seeking engineering companies for ‘Blueprint’ water project

Trumbull County commissioners say the the county sanitary engineer’s office can seek qualifications for engineering services for the Blueprint To Prosperity waterline project for the Braceville, Southington and Farmington areas.

The $12.5 million project will be the largest water project for the sanitary engineer’s office in at least 17 years, said Gary Newbrough, project planning director for the sanitary engineers.

It will include 123,350 feet of waterline and will travel north along Braceville Robinson Road in Braceville Township from state Route 5 to Helsey Fusselman Road, west to state Route 534 and north along 534 to West Farmington.

It also takes in a large part of Southington, including a section of U.S. Route 422.

It will serve 750 customers, including 222 that will be connecting within 90 days of the project being completed and another 126 signed up to receive a “curb box” during the construction that will make it easier for them to hook up to the water line at some later date.

Customers getting a curb box during the initial project will pay $1,500 for it, though people qualifying as low to moderate income will get the curb box for free, Newbrough said.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is providing $6 million of the $12.5 at no cost to the county or customers and is providing the other $6.5 million at zero percent interest.

One reason for the state’s help is because the project will provide water to West Farmington, which has encountered problems with its water supply and its treatment plant, officials said.
