Teenager charged

BOARDMAN

Members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force on Wednesday arrested a Youngstown man wanted by Boardman police for purportedly shooting at a township house.

Edward Gibson, 18, of Vestal Road, is charged with misdemeanor aggravated menacing and felony counts of shooting into a habitation, discharge of a firearm into a prohibited location, possessing weapons under disability and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

He was taken to the Mahoning County jail after he was arrested at his home Wednesday morning.

The charges stem from an incident reported Tuesday in which Gibson reportedly fired shots at a Western Reserve Road home, hitting a detached garage.

Police accuse Gibson of shooting at the house because he was angry that someone who owed him $60 was not there to give it to him, a victim told police.

Suspect in custody

YOUNGSTOWN

A man a Mahoning County grand jury secretly indicted last week on a charge of involuntary manslaughter has been taken into custody.

Roderick Means, 33, was booked into the county jail Wednesday after he was arrested on a warrant by U.S. marshals.

Means is accused of selling fentanyl to an Austintown woman April 16. The woman later died from the drug. He is expected to be arraigned next week in common pleas court.

Back at church

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rev. Greg Maturi was back at St. Dominic’s Church on Thursday. He suffered a mild concussion Wednesday when a pickup truck turned in front of his motorcycle on Market Street, putting him in the hospital overnight, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Father Maturi, who has 20 years’ experience riding a motorcycle, said he was able to lay his bike down and avoid a direct hit with the truck and possibly more serious injury. He said he probably would had suffered more serious injuries had he not been wearing a helmet.

Assault charges

WARREN

Orlando L. Ervin Jr., 22, of Stiles Street Northwest was arraigned Thursday on charges of felonious assault and aggravated burglary after being arrested at 4 a.m. Wednesday in connection with an incident on Dodge Street Northwest in which he surrendered to police after a short standoff involving a gun.

A not-guilty plea was entered for him. He remains in the Trumbull County Jail without eligibility to make bond.

Police were called to the Dodge address for a burglar-alarm activation, saw a broken window and heard someone inside.

Officers heard two gunshots coming from inside the home and then heard a male voice saying he was “coming out” and asked not to be shot by police.

Officers requested backup from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and Warren Township Police because they didn’t know if the gunshots involved another person, police said. When officers searched the home, however, they did not find anyone else.
