Austintown library hosted a Mother’s Day Body Scrub craft event on April 28.

Librarian Lindsay Platt provided the supplies and instructions needed to make different kinds of body scrubs. To make a simple body scrub, the only supplies needed were sugar, oil, food coloring and an oil for the scent.

Platt explained step-by-step how to create a body scrub, then the guests had the opportunity to follow along and create their own. A table was set up with all of the ingredients needed for the project, making it easy for people to follow the instructions given by Platt.

When all the ingredients were combined, the guests put their mixtures in a small mason jar and tied a ribbon around it for decoration. There was also a label sticker provided for the guests to put on their jar to show what scent the scrub was.

“I can make these at home, they would be good for a party. You can even have cupcakes to put with these at a party too, the same color and flavor,” said one of the guests, LaShonda Narh-Martey.

Both children and adults attended the event, and ended up going home with a sweet-smelling body scrub to use for themselves or give to their mothers - or another special woman in their lives - for Mother’s Day.

Those who wanted to create more of their own body scrubs were able to take home a packet that Platt printed out with different varieties of body scrubs.
