POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

May 29

Domestic violence: A 13-year-old Girard boy was charged with the crime after his mother alleged the teen had jumped on top of and struck a younger sibling several times during an argument about a cellphone charger. In addition, the boy pushed his mother, she further alleged.

Burglary: To a residence in the 20 block of East Kline Street, though police found no signs of forced entry. Stolen was a .22-caliber rifle.

May 30

Theft: A Trumbull Avenue man told police another man had stolen 70 over-the-counter pills from the accuser as he slept.

Domestic violence: Clifford Raynovich, 37, who listed addresses on East Howard Street in Girard and Water Street in Salineville, was charged after his girlfriend alleged that during an argument, Raynovich had choked her and, when the accuser tried to defend herself, threw her against a wall and repeatedly punched her. The victim complained of pain to her head and neck.

May 31

Domestic violence: A Girard girl, 15, was charged after her mother alleged that in an act of defiance, the girl tossed a chair down a flight of steps and nearly struck a younger sibling.

Theft: A woman reported a $180 cell phone stolen from her Beechwood Drive home.

Menacing: A Marshall Road man said his former brother-in-law threatened to beat him up.

Identity fraud: A North Highland Avenue woman learned that someone had used her identity to make unauthorized changes to her cellphone account.

June 1

Theft: Two people in the 400 block of Hartzell Avenue told police a man claiming to be collecting money on behalf of a veterans organization scammed them each of $20.

LIBERTY

May 25

Arrest: Jena Hobbs, 29, of Church Hill-Hubbard Road, surrendered on a Trumbull County Family Court warrant charging contempt of court.

Domestic violence: A Girard boy, 15, faced a felony charge after his father alleged the unruly teen had bitten and punched him as the accuser tried to restrain him. The boy was on probation in relation to another domestic-violence situation, authorities said.

May 26

Arrest: Hubbard City police handed township authorities 21-year-old Fred J. Nolasco of Tampa Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Girard Municipal Court.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Belmont Avenue and Church Hill Road led to the arrest of 37-year-old Demitra J. Tate of Bellfield Avenue, Youngstown, on a charge of obstructing official business. Tate provided a phony name because she had no driver’s license and was driving under suspension, police alleged.

May 27

Arrest: A vehicle check near Colonial Drive resulted in the arrest of 38-year-old Melody Gayles of Roosevelt Drive, Youngstown, who was wanted on a city warrant.

Threat: A man in the 3000 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road alleged a Hubbard woman had threatened to set fire to his truck, apparently as part of a dispute regarding money owed the accuser after he had repaired her brakes.

Identity theft: A Newton Falls woman found out her personal information had been used without consent at a Goldie Road big-box store.

Arrest: Police were dispatched to downtown Youngstown to pick up Randall M. Barnes, 26, of Crandall Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

May 28

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 4900 block of Fifth Avenue Extension was found with two broken windows and a dent. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

Theft: Both registration license plates were removed from a vehicle in the 10 block of Trumbull Court.

Identity fraud: A Twin Oaks Drive man told police a collection agency had called claiming he owes $739 on a cable account that someone in Ecru, Miss., apparently set up after having obtained the victim’s Social Security number.

May 29

Arrest: Officers investigating suspicious activity at a Motor Inn Drive motel took 32-year-old Rachel L. Cassidy into custody upon discovering Cassidy, of Liberty Avenue, Hubbard, was wanted on a felony-arson charge from Youngstown.

Criminal damaging: A Burgettstown, Pa., woman reported that while staying at an East Liberty Street motel, someone used a key to scratch an obscenity on her vehicle’s finish.

Drug paraphernalia: Cecil L. Flenner of Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police had conducted a vehicle check near Colonial Avenue and alleged the 41-year-old Flenner had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe.

Animal complaint: A Keefer Road woman reported a neighbor’s dog had bitten her when the victim was in her front yard. The woman suffered injuries to her face, mouth, chin and upper left arm.

Domestic violence/criminal damaging: A domestic-violence charge was pending against a 29-year-old Girard woman after a man alleged she had punched his face while they were at a Belmont Avenue motel and in the midst of ending their relationship. Also, the man admitted having broken a window to the room, a report stated.

May 30

Arrest: Police in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue investigated an occupied car that was parked illegally before taking 31-year-old Monique L. Curry into custody. Curry, of Alameda Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after authorities said her blood-alcohol count registered 0.123, slightly higher than Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit.

Vandalism: Someone did $500 in damage to a concrete wall at a Liberty Plaza business.

Arrest: Authorities responded to a report of someone on Richards Street soliciting for money before arresting 28-year-old Jonnie M. Winslow of Hadley Avenue, Liberty on a Girard Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court.

May 31

Aggravated menacing: A Youngstown man reported that while at a Goldie Road big-box store, a 54-year-old Youngstown man who had in his hand a pack of knives made a threatening gesture implying the accuser would be harmed.

HUBBARD

May 25

Arrests: While conducting a traffic stop on North Main Street, police took into custody Fred J. Nolasco, 21, and 67-year-old Fred N. Torres, both of Tampa Avenue, Youngstown. Nolasco and Torres were wanted on warrants from Liberty Township and the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department, respectively.

Criminal damaging: A worker for a Hubbard business reported a 29-year-old Lowellville man upset about money tossed and damaged a company-owned chain saw, then threw a small, engine-powered machine and struck the side of a pickup truck. Damage to the truck and chain saw came to $950.

Arrest: Genene Green, 42, was arrested shortly after officers had pulled her over in the 100 block of West Liberty Street. Green, of East Avondale Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant from that city.

May 26

Domestic violence: James G. Robinson III of Stewart Avenue, Hubbard, faced a charge after a woman alleged that during an ongoing argument, the 36-year-old Robinson twice pushed her, then took her purse.

Possible theft: A woman said she never received a package that was to have been delivered to her Tulip Drive residence.
