The Canfield Village Middle School’s fifth- and sixth-grade choirs presented their annual Spring Concert at the Canfield High School on May 12.
The choirs, including the Cardinal Chorale, were under the direction of Stephanie Summers and were accompanied on piano by Courtney Larson, on bass by Nathan Gelfand and on drums by Bryan Teeters.
Summers welcomed the large audience of family and friends to the concert.
“Welcome to our fifth- and sixth-grade Spring Concert. We will start with the Cardinal Chorale, which is made up of both seventh- and eighth-graders. I am going to turn it over to the student narrators as they welcome you and introduce each of the choirs,” Summers said.
The Cardinal Chorale opened the show with “Ye Shall Have a Song” by Sally K. Albrecht and then performed “A Song Sung Once” by Amy F. Bernon. The choir closed their portion of the concert with “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel,” a traditional spiritual arranged by Roger Emerson.
The fifth-grade choir then took the stage to perform “That’s Amore” by Jack Brooks and Harry Warren, arranged by Kirby Shaw. They then sang “Teach the Wind Your Song” by Amy Feldman Bernon and moved into a favorite of the students, “Bus Stop” by Phyllis Wolfe-White.
The fifth-graders closed their performance with “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten and Dave Bassett, arranged by Roger Emerson. The song included solos by students Natalee Balestra, Brianna Fishel and Ryan Schneider.
Fifth-grade narrators included Domenic Nacarato, Karis Herrmann, Madison Murphy, Ty Stricko and Mallory Hughes.
With the conclusion of the fifth-grade performance, the sixth-grade choir began their portion of the concert with “The Addams Family” by Vic Mizzy and arranged by Mark Brymer. The choir then sang “Best Day of My Life” by Barnett Shelley, Sanchez, Rublin, Goodman and Acetta, arranged by Andy Beck.
For their final song, the sixth-graders sang “All You Need is Love” by Lennon and McCartney, arranged by Alan Billingsley.
Sixth-grade narrators included Jenna Vrabel, Isabella Bellino, Tobias Smith and Derek Davidson.
“Thank you for coming to our show tonight. We hope you enjoyed it. I have very much enjoyed working with these students this year. I pushed them hard and they rose to the occasion. I have really enjoyed teaching them. Thanks again for coming and have a great summer,” Summers said.
