Police continue search for suspects

Police continue searching for a suspect or suspects who threw potatoes at passing vehicles Tuesday evening.
According to a report, two people told police their vehicles were struck by a potato in a similar area at similar times. The first occurred at 11:45 p.m. when the victim was traveling on U.S. Route 224 and reported hearing a loud bang and noticed his turn signal malfunctioning.
After pulling over, the victim said the potato shattered his front driver-side turn signal and cracked the adjacent headlight cover.
The second occurred at 11:55 p.m. on Glenwood Avenue near Sugarcane Drive when the victim heard a loud noise from the front of the vehicle. The victim later found a portion of a potato lodged in the car’s grille.
Crash probed

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that resulted in minor injuries.
A vehicle failed to yield and rolled onto its side about noon Wednesday on Belmont Avenue, according to the patrol. The patrol reports four people suffered minor injuries from the collision and three of them were hospitalized. No other information was available.
Boardman jazz concert scheduled
BOARDMAN
The Boardman High School Spring Jazz Concert will take place at 7 p.m. Friday in the high-school cafeteria.
The performance will feature BHS Jazz Ensembles 1, 2 and 3, which are directed by Thomas Ruggieri. The talents of outgoing seniors will be highlighted during the show, according to a news release.
Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students. Senior citizens 65 and older will be admitted free.
Proceeds will benefit the Thomas A. Groth Jazz Scholarship fund.
Pizza, popcorn, soft drinks and bottled water will be available for purchase.
Those who attend are asked to enter through the gymnasium entrance on the north side of the building.
Bridge replacement to begin Monday
CALCUTTA
Work is scheduled to begin Monday to replace the state Route 170 bridge over Little Beaver Creek at Fredricktown between Calcutta and Negley, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced.
The $2.5 million project will replace the current 1930, four-span, concrete box-beam bridge with a new, single-span, steel-plate girder structure.
Minimal impact to traffic is expected until Aug. 1, when state Route 170 will be closed for 115 days.
Traffic will be detoured on state Route 154 west to state Route 11 south, back to state Route 170, and reverse.
The road is expected to be re-opened to traffic by Nov. 9; however, the project’s overall completion date is May 31, 2017.
ODOT’s contractor is Shelly & Sands Inc. of Columbus.
Joint-pain seminar planned in Howland
