POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
May 25
Criminal damaging: A door and a metal child-safety gate were damaged at a residence in the 4000 block of Via Cassia Drive.
BOARDMAN
May 27
Arrest: A traffic stop near Brookwood Road resulted in the arrest of 56-year-old Ruby L. Scott, who listed addresses on Erskine Avenue in Boardman and Hunter Street in Youngstown. Scott was wanted on a Youngstown warrant charging aggravated trespassing.
Burglary: To a garage in the 7500 block of Huntington Drive. Three gift cards were removed from a vehicle inside.
Theft: A Poland woman discovered a book bag and her wallet missing from her car in the 6100 block of Market Street.
Burglary: To a first-floor apartment in the 7300 block of East Huntington Drive through a rear sliding-glass door. A $400 iPad device was taken.
Domestic violence: Austintown police handed to township authorities 28-year-old Michael A. Williams of Fairfax Street, Youngstown, who was wanted on one count each of felonious assault and domestic violence. A Youngstown man alleged that while at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, Williams took a set of house keys from him and when the accuser followed Williams to his vehicle in an effort to get them back, Williams accelerated toward the victim, forcing him to jump out of the way.
Theft: Jeremy S. Adams, 32, of Elk Road, Canfield, was charged with stealing five $8 fishing lures from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Arrests: After responding to a possible fight at a U.S. Route 224 fast-food restaurant and pulling over a car nearby, authorities charged 20-year-old Brett A. Irwin with operating a vehicle impaired after saying Irwin, of Eisenhower Drive, Boardman, had a 0.167 blood-alcohol count, slightly more than double Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit. Also, police charged 20-year-old Taylor J. Hassey of Lynn Road, Canfield, with underage possession of alcohol.
Theft: Michelle L. Rafferty, 33, of Patricia Drive, Girard, faced charges of theft and possession of criminal tools after numerous pairs of boys and girls shorts as well as T-shirts were stolen from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road. Rafferty also used a pair of wire cutters to cut the security tags from many of the items, a report said.
Stolen property: Police at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital picked up Justin W. Covan of Poland Avenue, Struthers, who was wanted on one felony receiving-stolen-property charge and one misdemeanor count of misuse of a credit card. The 25-year-old Covan’s charges relate to an April 29 incident in which a Youngstown man discovered his wallet missing while at a township store and that his credit cards had been used without authorization.
Theft: David B. Regina, 58, and Carla M. Fox, 59, both of Greenwood Street, Youngstown, were charged in the theft of $384 worth of groceries from Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive.
May 28
Burglary: Two men in their 40s reportedly entered a residence in the 50 block of Brookwood Road via the front door and, when a neighbor confronted the two, they fled in a white pickup truck.
Theft: A woman noticed her purse missing while at a store in the 200 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.
Aggravated menacing: A Wolosyn Circle man alleged a former co-worker had sent him two text messages, including one containing a threat to kill him.
Theft: A woman reported her $949 iPhone stolen while at a Market Street gas station.
Theft: Bonnie J. McAllister, 59, of Eighth Street, Struthers, was charged, accused of stealing $16 worth of merchandise from Marc’s, 7121 Tiffany Blvd.
Menacing: A Ferncliff Avenue woman told officers her former boyfriend has been sending numerous unwanted gifts to her residence as well as a bouquet of flowers to her place of employment. He also sent a T-shirt with an ominous message, she reported.
May 29
Arson: An Applecrest Court woman alleged her boyfriend intentionally set fire to some of her clothing that were in a kitchen sink.
Burglary: While responding to a possible break-in at a home in the 3900 block of Arden Boulevard, authorities charged 42-year-old Leon C. Reynolds of Westchester Drive, Austintown, with burglary and domestic violence after his former girlfriend alleged Reynolds had tried to break down a rear door to the residence. He also grabbed and pushed the accuser into a backyard fence, leaving marks on her left arm and leg, a report showed.
Theft: A Hitchcock Road man noticed $35, a cellphone and other items missing from his car.
Criminal damaging: A Poland woman alleged a man broke her vehicle’s windshield-wiper arm during a fight between them at his Pine Hill Drive home.
Theft: James C. Gurney, 51, of Market Street, Boardman, was charged with taking an $8 bottle of vodka from Save-a-Lot, 223 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Theft: An Arden Boulevard man discovered a .40-caliber pistol missing from his vehicle.
Assault: A Struthers man reported having been struck in the face during an altercation at a Leighton Avenue residence when he tried to intervene in an argument between two other people.
May 30
Arrest: Authorities picked up Paul D. Bonner of West Judson Avenue, Youngstown, who was charged with obstructing official business. The 30-year-old Bonner, who also was wanted on a Liberty Township warrant, was accused of using his brother’s identity Sept. 12, 2014, to avoid receiving a citation, a report stated.
Theft: Thomas A. Tenney, 55, of Keefer Road, Liberty, was charged with stealing a $22 tube of moisturizing lotion from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.
Weapon: After pulling him over on U.S. Route 224, police charged 29-year-old Matthew R. Desha with one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. A search of the North Ridgeville, Ohio, man’s car turned up a loaded 9 mm handgun and three additional loaded magazines, along with straws with suspected drug residue and other contraband, a report said.
Criminal damaging: An officer on routine patrol in the 100 block of Rockland Drive reported seeing wet paint on a vehicle’s windshield and hood, along with an empty 1-gallon paint can near the car.
Theft: A Jennette Drive woman reported her 12-year-old son’s cellphone stolen when he visited a friend.
Theft: A township woman noticed her wallet missing while at a business in the 200 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.
Criminal damaging: A Sugartree Drive man told officers someone tampered with a cable line to his air-conditioning unit, rendering it inoperable.
Theft: An Oakley Avenue woman reported a grave marker was stolen from a Market Street cemetery.
Robbery: Police on a traffic stop arrested 36-year-old Maria A. Carkido of Texas Avenue, McDonald, on charges of robbery, obstructing official business and possession of criminal tools, drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia, as well as 30-year-old Louis M. Polois Jr. of McDonald Avenue, McDonald, on charges of complicity to robbery and the same two drug offenses after three $60 Sony PlayStation 3 controllers were stolen from Best Buy, 561 Boardman-Poland Road. Store employees alleged Carkido, whom police said provided a phony name and date of birth, also had fought with them. In addition, two spoons with burn marks common in drug use and four syringes were found, a report stated.
Identity fraud: A Rockland Drive woman found three unauthorized credit-card charges that totaled $663.
Theft: A Sony PlayStation 4 game console, $250 and several PlayStation 4 games were removed from a car in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court.
Theft: A Struthers woman reported shopping bags containing about $100 worth of merchandise were stolen while she was at Southern Park Mall.
