BOARDMAN

Police charged two teens Wednesday morning in a recent string of thefts from vehicles in township carports, according to a police report.

Police charged Nicholas Scharringhausen, 16, of Washington Boulevard with receiving stolen property, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, violating curfew and underage possession of tobacco.

Police said the other teen, Daniel Sabelli, 16, of Brookwood Road, is charged with receiving stolen property and given a warning for violating curfew and underage possession of tobacco. Police sent Sabelli home for cooperating and providing a written confession to his suspected role in the thefts.

An officer questioned and searched the teenagers at a carport on Brookwood Road, finding multiple cellphones on Sabelli, which the officer reportedly believed might be from the recent string of thefts from cars in the area.

Upon a later inspection, police found a number of items, including chewing tobacco and cigarettes, in their bookbags. They also discovered credit cards, identification and other cards in Scharringhausen’s wallet not in his name. A number of the stolen cards in his wallet belonged to a resident of Applecrest Court who reported about $1,120 worth of merchandise stolen from her vehicle Monday.

According to the police report, the two later confessed the recent thefts reported May 29-30 stealing from six to nine cars on Applecrest Court.

Scharringhausen was taken to the Martin P. Joyce County Juvenile Justice Center. He and Sabelli await a pending court date.
