Dancers to attend summer programs

Ten Ballet Western Reserve company dancers have been accepted for summer intensive programs and workshops.

The programs offer advanced training to young dancers, who receive full days of instruction from the staff. The intensives select dancers based on merit.

“We are always really proud of our students who attend summer intensive and workshop classes because it shows how committed they are to dance and to improving their performance,” said Tricia Perry, vice president of the BWR board of directors. “It also reflects well on BWR in that the dance program here inspires so many students to reach higher and work harder to improve as dancers and performers.

“And the little ones watch the older dancers and want to follow in their footsteps. They start early in setting their performance goals high.”

Here is the list of BWR students and the summer intensive or workshop they are attending:

Emilia Aey, 14, and in the eighth grade at Canfield Village Middle School, Boston Ballet summer intensive program.

Lexi Burdman, a sophomore at Canfield High School, Interlochen Arts Center in Michigan.

Gracie Cummings, 12, and in the sixth grade at the Lewis Center for Gifted Learning in Youngstown, Point Park International Summer Dance Program.

Megan Delaney, 13, and an eighth grade honors student at Poland Middle School, the School of Cleveland Ballet.

Davia Ford, a junior at Struthers High School, University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Lulu Herman, 12, and a seventh-grader at W.S. Guy Middle School in Liberty, the five-week Summer Ballet Program at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in Carlisle, Pa.

Hunter Lombard, a seventh grade honor student at Austintown Middle School, Point Park University International Summer Dance Program in Pittsburgh.

Lucia Perry, 13, and in seventh grade at Poland Middle School, Point Park University Summer Dance Workshop for two weeks.

Ava Shapiro, 14, and in the eighth grade at Canfield Village Middle School, the Joffrey Ballet in New York for two weeks.

Sarah Veverka, 16, and a sophomore at Canfield High School, Oberlin College’s summer dance intensive.
