Boardman teens suspected in string of thefts from cars

BOARDMAN — Police charged one teen this morning in a recent string of thefts from vehicles in township carports, and gave a second teen a warning, according to a police report.

Police charged Nicholas Scharringhausen, 16, of Washington Boulevard, with receiving stolen property, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, violating curfew and underage possession of tobacco.

Police said the other teen, Daniel Sabelli, 16, of Brookwood Road, was given a warning and sent home because of his cooperation and written confession to his suspected role in the thefts.

An officer questioned and searched the teenagers at a carport on Brookwood Road, finding multiple cellphones on Sabelli, which the officer reportedly believed might be from the recent string of thefts from cars in the area.

Police later found credit cards, identification and other cards in Scharringhausen’s wallet.

According to the police report, the two later confessed to the recent thefts reported May 29-30 stealing from six to nine cars on Applecrest Court.

Scharringhausen was taken to the Martin P. Joyce County Juvenile Justice Center with a pending court date.
