Scrappers earn split in Aberdeen

The Scrappers split a doubleheader at Aberdeen on Friday, winning the first game 7-1, before falling, 6-2, in the second contest.
Mahoning Valley (18-22) won Game 1 behind strong pitching outings from Shane Bieber and Michael Letkewicz.
Bieber tossed three scoreless innings on three hits and three strikeouts, while Letkewicz (4-0) allowed just one run on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Offensively, Erin Cerda went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and Andrew Calica went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Emmanuel Tapia also drove in three runs, while Mitch Longo went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.
In Game 2, Mahoning Valley led by a run early before it was done-in by a five-run Aberdeen third inning.
Scrappers starter Luis Jimenez lasted just 2 2/3 innings, while he surrendered six runs (four earned) on four hits.
