Rev. Krueger assumes new roles

BOARDMAN

Effective July 1, Bishop John Hopkins, episcopal leader of the East Ohio United Methodist Conference, appointed the Rev. Jerry W. Krueger as pastor at Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St.

The move to Boardman UMC came after Pastor Krueger served Trinity UMC, 30 W. Front St., and Richard Brown UMC, 1205 Elm St., both in Youngstown. It was designed to cast a wider vision for the Greater Youngstown Area Ministry Team, which the Rev. Mr. Krueger now oversees as lead pastor.

The Korean UMC, 1609 Fifth Ave.; Centenary/Mahoning UMC, 1413 Belmont Ave., and Trinity and Richard Brown UMC, will work more closely together to assess and utilize the unique resources of each congregation in the expanded Youngstown area. The pastors of the churches, the Revs. Hyun Suk Kim, Dawan Buie and Kelsey Orosan, will all work with Pastor Krueger in this endeavor.

Pastor Krueger is a Texas native, where he served churches in the western region of the state for many years, and has been in northeast Ohio for the past four years. He is married to the Rev. Susan Brown, pastor at Canfield UMC.

New minister at Central Christian

WARREN

Marc Runyon has been chosen as the new minister for Central Christian Church, 2051 E. Market St. The church’s search committee voted Sunday to offer the position to Runyon, who accepted. He will preach his first sermon at the church on Sept. 11.

Runyon was born in Cuyahoga Falls, and grew up in the First Christian Church of Stow. His experiences in CYF there and at Camp Christian led to a call to ministry when he was a high school junior. He graduated from Disciples-related Bethany College in West Virginia and went on to complete his Master of Divinity at Brite Divinity School of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. He was ordained in his home church in 1984.

Runyon has served three congregations in the St. Louis area: first as associate minister at Hamilton Christian Church, then as solo pastor at Overland Christian Church (12 years), and is now concluding 15 years of ministry with Celebration Church (Disciples of Christ).

He has very much wanted to come “home” to Ohio to be close to his mother, two sisters and a brother. He has two grown children.
