Mohip to appear on local TV show

YOUNGSTOWN

Krish Mohip, CEO of Youngstown City Schools, will appear on 21 WFMJ-TV’s “Community Connection” program hosted by Madonna Chism Pinkard, the station’s community relations and EEO director, at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and rebroadcast at 11 a.m. Sunday on WCBC.

Mohip will talk about House Bill 70, the state law that created his position, and his goals for the school district.

Fiala going to Rome

A farewell reception for Father Vit Fiala will take place Tuesday at the Shrine of Our Lady, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave. He is being transferred to Rome. His new position will be Master of Friars, and he will be responsible for forming new friars in compassionate ministry for the future.

Father Fiala is well-known locally as a classical musician.

The monthly rosary cenacle will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the reception will follow at 7:30 p.m. All are invited.

Back the Blue accepting donations

YOUNGSTOWN

Members of the local “Back The Blue” movement are accepting donations of food, drinks, candy and gift cards for city police officers that will be given to officers on duty.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can call the department at 330-742-8921, to leave a message if they want to arrange pickup of their items, or they can be dropped from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the police department at 116 W. Boardman St.

More than 500 departments will be participating in the event to show support for police officers across the country. The items will be donated to officers Monday.

Gardens closed

YOUNGSTOWN

Fellows Riverside Gardens will be closed to the public today starting at 3 p.m. for a private event.

The closure is for Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens’ annual Summer Garden Party.

State to provide info at MCCTC

The Trumbull and Mahoning County Boards of Developmental Disabilities are bringing a representative from Treasurer of State Josh Mandel’s office to the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield, on Wednesday to provide information about STABLE Accounts.

The first session is 10 to 11:30 a.m. and the second session is 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both sessions are in the Lecture Hall, which can be accessed through Door 55. Reservations are recommended. Call Mary Jo Orr at 330-799-2942. For information, call 330-797-2925.

A STABLE Account is an investment account available to eligible individuals with disabilities that allow individuals with disabilities to save and invest money without losing eligibility for certain public benefits programs, like Medicaid, SSI, or SSDI. and are not subject to federal income tax as long they are spent on “Qualified Disability Expenses.”

Veterans center to close for training

The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission, 345 Oak Hill Ave., will be closed Thursday for employee education and training, Susan Krawchyk, commission executive director, announced this week.
