America Makes, YBI presents additive manufacturing study

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Research by America Makes, the Youngstown Business Incubator and others is expected to help make Northeast Ohio the center of the additive manufacturing revolution.

On Wednesday at the University of Akron Research Foundation, YBI, America Makes, Team NEO and MAGNET presented their findings from a study to determine the feasibility of having an additive manufacturing cluster here.

The study found Northeast Ohio has three key areas of strength: materials, product manufacturing and design engineering.

Having more than 2,000 companies involved in metal fabrication and rubber processing in Northeast Ohio shows an opportunity to integrate an additive manufacturing supply chain to build a cluster.

From 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, America Makes, 236 W. Boardman St., will have a meeting for businesses interested in the study and opportunities in additive manufacturing.
