Man gets 10 years for 2015 attack on his aunt

YOUNGSTOWN — A man was sentenced today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to 10 years in prison for an attack on his aunt in December.

Timothy Smith, 36, was sentenced by Judge Lou D'Apolito for the attack at the victim's Bott Street home, where she was beaten with a hammer.

Reports said she was beaten in front of her grandchildren, one of whom called 911 before Smith ran away. He was found the next day at the WRTA station on West Federal Street.
