DNC CONVENTION | US Rep. Tim Ryan tells convention Clinton will help middle class
PHILADELPHIA – U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan said at the Democratic National Convention that Hillary Clinton, the party’s presidential nominee, will help the middle class while Republican Donald Trump doesn’t care about them.
Trump has “been stabbing workers in the back for years,” Ryan said tonight. “Trump got rich ripping people off; stiffing small businesses and contractors. Now he says he’s gonna bring back our jobs? Hey, Ohio, don’t buy it.”
Ryan said, “This guy cut deals to make the Trump line of products in China, Mexico, Bangladesh. Not Youngstown, not Akron, not Niles.”
Ryan said Clinton respects workers and has a plan to help them by putting $10 billion into the manufacturing sector and putting people to work repairing roads, bridges and schools.
Workers “deserve peace of mind and a piece of the pie,” Ryan said. “They deserve a president who will put them first, and it’s up to us to elect one.”
Ryan said he was initially told about two weeks ago that the Clinton presidential campaign was interested in having him speak at the convention, but he wasn’t given any specific time or day.
When the speakers’ list came out last week, Ryan wasn’t on it. But he said he was told to prepare a speech regardless.
He was contacted Wednesday and rehearsed the speech.
Ryan will be with Clinton and Tim Kaine, the Democratic Party’s vice presidential candidate, at a Saturday night rally at Youngstown’s East High School.
