Autopsy planned on 2-month-old girl

YOUNGSTOWN

An autopsy will be needed to determine the cause of death for a 2-month girl.

The girl died Tuesday afternoon at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning in Boardman. Police were called about 1 p.m. to her home in the 1400 block of Plazaview Court on the East Side, but when officers arrived, the baby already was at the hospital with her mother.

Detectives went to the home, then interviewed the mother at the hospital while crime-lab personnel looked for evidence.

Home damaged

BROOKFIELD

A home in the 1200 block of state Route 7 received $30,000 in damage after an apparent problem with the electrical box caused smoke and water damage to the basement early Tuesday.

A woman and her daughter escaped the fire unharmed after the woman heard sounds and told her daughter to get out of the house. They called 911 at 12:20 a.m.

The electrical box was melted, indicating the probable location where the fire started, said Steve Smoot, a firefighter and paramedic.

There was no fire showing outside of the house when firefighters arrived, but the basement was full of smoke, he added. Two area fire departments assisted with the fire.

The city advises residents to boil water before using it for cooking, drinking or brushing teeth, though officials are no longer warning residents to limit how much water they use.

Hubbard began work on its main water-transmission line Monday. Officials are waiting for test results to confirm city water is safe to drink.
