Electrical problem causes Brookfield house fire
BROOKFIELD
A home in the 1200 block of state Route 7 received $30,000 in damage after an apparent problem with the electrical box caused smoke and water damage to the basement early today.
A woman and her daughter escaped the fire unharmed after the woman heard polling sounds and told her daughter to get out of the house. They called 911 at 12:20 a.m.
The electrical box was “melted,” indicating the probable location where the fire started, said Steve Smoot, a firefighter, paramedic.
There was no fire showing outside of the house when firefighters arrived, but the basement was full of smoke, he added. Two area fire departments assisted with the fire.
