Canfield man accused of stealing $3,000

AUSTINTOWN

Officers arrested a Canfield man accused of stealing $3,000 from someone he sat next to at the slot machines at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, 777 Hollywood Drive.

According to the police report, a security employee at the racino contacted police Friday night after viewing Chris Aczel, 44, of West Calla Road, Canfield, on surveillance video reaching into a man’s pocket and extracting his wallet while the man was bent over to pick up his cane by a slot machine. The victim advised offers he had $3,000 in his wallet.

Officers weren’t able to locate the wallet or the money, but Aczel was charged with felony theft and transported to the Mahoning County jail.

Motorcyclist injured

A crash about 1:30 p.m. Monday sent a motorcyclist to the hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports a motorcyclist was forced off the road when a van abruptly changed lanes in front of him on state Route 82.

A trooper said the 32-year-old motorcyclist slid into the median and got caught under some median cable wires before flipping over a fence.

The motorcyclist was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for leg injuries which are not life-threatening, according to the state patrol. His name was not available at press time. The patrol continues its investigation of the accident.

Warren man struck by gunfire at house

WARREN

A man, 27, of Brier Street Southeast, was hit by gunfire at a house in the 1900 block of West Market Street at 2 a.m. Saturday. Police responded to the Market Street address and found blood on the front porch and front door and a man with a cut finger.

At the same time, another man, Mario D. Patterson, 37, of Milton Street Southeast, ran toward the house and tried to assault a man on the porch, telling police, “He just shot my brother,” a report said.

Patterson pleaded not guilty in Warren Municipal Court to resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
