Books festival award for former Valley writer

CALIFORNIA

Former Mahoning Valley resident Christine Orenic-Ward was named a runner-up in the Midwest Book Festival in California for her recent book “Silent No More.”

More than 1,000 books were judged at the festival.

Ward wrote and published “Silent No More,” which was released in July of 2012. She moved from Boardman to Atlanta the same year.

Orenic-Ward will travel to Chicago to attend the awards ceremony Nov. 21.

She is writing a second edition of “Silent No More” titled “Tragedy to Triumph.”

Born and raised in the Valley, Orenic-Ward credits her success to the people of the Valley where she initially penned her memoir. She also credits her Christian faith.

Lordi writes on transformation

POLAND

Shari Lordi of Poland wrote “Reclaiming Your Land,” a book about being transformed through the word of God.

Lordi writes from personal experience about challenges to liberation. Her book is described as “one woman’s journey of brokenness and dysfunction turned around into victory and wholeness through the cross of Jesus Christ.”

Her book was published by Word of Truth Inspirations and will be available Aug. 1 on Amazon.

‘Twilight’ author writes spy thriller

NEW YORK

“Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer’s next novel is a thriller, without vampires.

Little, Brown and Co. announced recently that “The Chemist” will be published Nov. 15. The company says the book features a former government agent living underground and forced to “take one more case to clear her name and save her life.”

“The Chemist” is Meyer’s second book for adults. In 2008, she wrote “The Host.”

In a statement released last week, Meyer called her new book a union of “romantic sensibilities” and her “obsession with Jason Bourne/Aaron Cross.”

Switching publishers

NEW YORK

“The Cartel” author Don Winslow will have a new publisher for the sequel to his acclaimed novel about the Mexico drug wars. William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishing, announced last week that it had reached a two-book deal with the crime novelist. One book will complete the trilogy that includes “The Power of the Dog” and “The Cartel,” both released by Alfred A. Knopf. The other novel with William Morrow is set in New York.
