Dog found on South Side with tongue cut out

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

A dog found Sunday afternoon by police on the South Side had its tongue cut out and teeth filed down.

Mary Louk, president of Animal Charity, said the abuse appears to have been done some time ago because the wounds have healed.

"It does appear that he has been like this for a while," Louk said.

Louk said the dog, who has been named Bubbles, was found off of Hillman Street about 4 p.m. on the front porch of a home.

It had wandered onto the porch and was friendly, but the homeowners were concerned because the dog had fresh cuts on his face.

Louk said the cuts looked bad but are not serious. The more serious injuries were not found until Bubbles was checked at the Animal Charity offices. Louk said the dog is very friendly and would touch his face against others, but would not kiss anyone. That is when they checked inside his mouth and discovered the damage to the tongue.
