METRO DIGEST || 4,000 need adoptive, foster families

Adoption information

WARREN

Northeast Ohio Adoption Services invites Mahoning Valley area adults, couples or singles, who are considering adoption or providing foster care to a school-age child to stop in for an informal information session from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at 5000 E. Market St., Suite 26.

Participants will have the opportunity to talk to NOAS staff to learn more about Ohio children and teens who need good families.

Successful foster and adoptive parents say that getting a few questions answered at the beginning, one-on-one from the individual family’s point of view, is helpful.

Nearly 4,000 children in Ohio are waiting for adoption or foster homes. For information and to RSVP, call 800-686-6627, ext. 126.

Touch a Truck event

HERMITAGE, PA.

Children of all ages will have the chance to see trucks of all shapes and sizes at Buhl Park’s Touch A Truck, presented by Donald Lark & Sons Inc. from 1 to 4 p.m. next Sunday.

The community event brings in large vehicles from all industries. With more than 30 vehicles on display, the day provides a casual atmosphere and the opportunity to talk to the men and women who drive the vehicles, learn about how they are used, and take photos.

The center of the activities will be near the park’s performing arts center stage. Food vendors offer hot dogs, elephant ears, funnel cakes, french fries, snow cones and more.

There also will be signature truck cups, and Dragonfly Balloons will be on hand with balloon art. Child ID kits also will be available.

Bridge to close

GREENVILLE, Pa.

The 95-year-old bridge on North Race Street over the Little Shenango River here is scheduled to close for replacement Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced.

The street is scheduled to reopen Dec. 15, although some final paving and re-vegetation work will be completed in spring 2017.

The posted detour will use Main Street and College and Alan avenues.
