Water advisory

HUBBARD

The city has issued a water-conservation advisory beginning at 7 a.m. Monday. Water users are urged to refrain from unnecessary usage if possible.

The city is repairing a break on its main water transmission line. Updates will be issued as they become available.

There also will be a precautionary boil advisory beginning at 6 p.m. the same day, until samples confirm the water is safe to drink.

It is recommended that water be boiled for one minute and allowed to cool before drinking, using in cooking or brushing teeth.

$1M bond in homicide

YOUNGSTOWN

Bond was set Friday at $1 million after a man was arraigned in municipal court in a Tuesday night homicide.

De’Ondre Gayles, 20, was arraigned before Magistrate Anthony Sertick on a charge of murder in the death of Ralph Thomas, 20, of Church Hill Road, Girard.

Thomas was killed after being shot about 9:50 p.m. at DuPont and Hammaker streets on the North Side.

Assistant City Prosecutor Jeffrey Moliterno told the magistrate Thomas’ death happened during the sale of marijuana on the street.

Teens face charges

BOARDMAN

A couple of township juveniles face charges of breaking and entering and theft after surrendering to police Thursday.

Josiah Wilburn, 16, and Allen Gardner, 17, both of Beechwood Drive, admitted to breaking and entering and theft Sunday at a Chester Drive residence.

The two reportedly stole $80 and three packs of cigarettes from the victim’s car while trespassing in the garage. Both were released to Wilburn’s mother.

Child leaves day care

AUSTINTOWN

An Austintown Township firefighter found an unattended 18-month-old outside Hopes and Dreams Daycare on Thursday morning.

According to the report, when the child wandered out of a fire exit at Hopes and Dreams Daycare, 33 N. Wickcliffe Circle, Firefighter David Schertzer ran across the street of Fire Station No. 2 to notify day-care employees.

Reports said two employees were in the same room the child wandered from, but they were both distracted cleaning up a mess when the child walked out of the exit. Police department officials said there were no charges filed, but the investigation will be handed over to the detective division.

Faith Spot to open

YOUNGSTOWN

Imani Community Programming will host the opening of the Faith Spot, an all-access resource room that allows guests to take new and gently used items free of charge, from 10 a.m. to noon next Saturday.

The site is located at 811 Oak St. in the former gym of Immaculate Conception School.

There is no income requirement for use of the Faith Spot, and working families are welcome. The room will be open once a month and all other times by appointment.

Donations will also be accepted at Christ Centered Church, 3300 Hudson Ave., from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as at the Faith Spot on its scheduled open days.
