Statue in the Valley

The International Pilgrim Virgin Statue, which has traveled worldwide for some 70 years, is marking the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady in Fatima, Portgual, in 1917. The statue travels east of the Mississippi in 2016 and west of the Mississippi in 2017.

In the Valley: The Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown, will have the statue on display through 6 p.m. today with a Mass at 5 p.m. A vigil began Friday morning. The statue also was at St. Mary Romainian Byzantine Catholic Church in Boardman. The statue will be at churches in the Archdiocese of Detroit from Sunday through July 31.

Background: The World Apostolate of Fatima, Warren-Youngstown Division, sponsored the visits. The World Apostolate of Fatima, USA Inc., was originally known as The Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. The name change was made when our organization was raised to the status of Public International Association of the Faithful under the Pontifical Council for the Laity. “Our Lady’s Blue Army” appears with the name for continuity.
