The Austintown library welcomed a representative from COSI to put on a presentation about weather for children and their families on June 22.

The children who are enrolled in the summer reading program got to mark of one of their challenges for attending the event.

Colleen, a representative from COSI, came from Columbus to teach children about weather in a fun way.

“We have seven huge, interactive exhibits that you get to explore, along with a planetarium. Right now we have a video game exhibit with over 100 video games,” said Colleen.

The presentation started out with the children learning different terms about the weather. They were referred to as meteorologists and their knowledge about weather was tested throughout the presentation. The children engaged in the presentation and those who volunteered had the opportunity to participate in some of the demonstrations.

The children learned about air pressure, thunder, lightning and several other weather concepts.

To end the presentation, the children created their own storm. They used the wind tunnel drum, a liquid nitrogen and water to create clouds, their hands to create the rain noise and a machine to create the lightning.
