The Poland library hosted a TOTE-ally Stamped Tote Bag event on June 16 for guests to come and turn a blank tote bag into a colorful, designed one.

Poland librarian Missy Williams led the event and supplied the items needed to create the colorful tote bags. There were plain tote bags, different colored fabric paints and sponges to use to make different stamp designs.

Williams pulled up a website on a large projection screen that listed step-by-step instructions of how to start decorating the bags. The website also showed different design patterns for guests to get ideas of ways to decorate their bags.

“We are having a lot of summer programs coming up, this one is a fun way to use your own creativity,” said Williams.

Guests used scissors to cut the sponges into different shapes to use as stamps. Once the shapes were cut out, they were dipped into the paint and pressed onto the tote bag. Newspaper was placed inside the bags so the paint didn’t soak through one side onto the other.

Many of the guests attended the event with a friend or family member and helped each other come up with different ideas for colors and patterns. At the end of the event, people walked out with a new tote bag they created themselves.

The Poland library will be hosting several events over the summer for guests of all ages to attend to keep busy and create new things.
