Free art class for elementary students

Salem Public Library and Burchfield Homestead Museum, 867 E. 4th St., are sponsoring a free art class from 1 to 2 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the museum for children in first through fourth grades.

Participants will learn to paint sunflowers and other plants, and about the native Salem artist Charles Burchfield’s techniques and 20th century works.

All supplies will be provided, and children should take a painting shirt.

Participants and their parents are encouraged to explore the museum which was the home of the watercolor artist.

The museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer or by appointment.
