America Makes announces awardees

YOUNGSTOWN

America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, driven by the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining, announced seven awardees of its most-recent Project Call for additive manufacturing projects. NCDMM/America Makes is targeting to make available about $5.5 million to fund multiple awards with $5.5 million in matching funds from the awarded project teams for total funding worth $11 million.

The seven selected awardees are: Carnegie Mellon University, University of Texas El Paso, Wolf Robotics LLC – A Lincoln Electric Co., 3D Systems Corp., Phoenix Analysis & Design Technologies Inc., Youngstown Business Incubator and Raytheon.

Meeting on manufacturing

YOUNGSTOWN

A meeting on the results of a study on The Future of Additive Manufacturing in Northeast Ohio will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 2 at America Makes, 236 W. Boardman St.

The meeting will highlight what additive manufacturing technologies can do to impact a business’s bottom line through production efficiencies, reduction in time to market and market development opportunity.

The Youngstown Business Incubator, Team NEO, MAGNET and America Makes developed a road map of the commercialization landscape and then defined a vision for additive manufacturing use. The results of this will be released at the meeting.

Eagle Rental opens new store in Niles

Eagle Rental Purchase, a locally owned company of rent-to-own furniture stores, is celebrating the opening of its newest location in Niles with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Foundation receives $10K sponsorship

SHARON, Pa.

The Meszaros Family Charitable foundation, whose mission is to honor the late Gary J. Meszaros by creating lasting influences in the community through grants and awards to well-deserving individuals and causes, has received a diamond-level sponsorship of $10,000 from TravelCenters of America for the inaugural FUNd Feast on Aug. 4.

The FUNd Feast will take place at the original Quaker Steak & Lube in downtown Sharon, Pa., beginning at 5 p.m. under the Lube’s big-top tent. The event will showcase a Bavarian Fun Fest theme complete with ethnic foods and entertainment.
