Mahoning County Grand Jury indicts 40

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday indicted 40 people including Lamar Knox, 26, East Pasadena Avenue, on possession of cocaine, possession of drugs, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia with forfeiture specifications and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Reports said Knox was pulled over in his own driveway about 11:50 p.m. on Jun. 14 by an officer who was part of the city’s first curfew sweep.

When police went to talk to Knox, they saw a bag of suspected marijuana on the front seat and asked him to step out of the car. When he got up, reports said, there was the handle of a handgun sticking up from under the driver’s seat.

The grand jury also indicted Jarrett Ortiz, 32, Hazelton Avenue, on failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, receiving stolen property and obstructing official business.

On Jun. 11, reports say Ortiz led officers on a pursuit in the stolen car that reached speeds between 70 and 80 mph and after losing control and hitting a car on Meadowbrook Avenue, he led them on a foot chase.
