Driver faces vehicular homicide, OVI charges

YOUNGSTOWN — Charges were filed today against a man for a January accident on Market Street.

Eric Wallace, 28, address not listed, faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and OVI for a Jan. 12, 2016 accident at Market Street and West LaClede Avenue that killed Jerome Campbell-Atkins, 40.

Campbell-Atkins was a passenger in a vehicle that was hit by a vehicle Wallace was driving.

Officer Brian Booksing of the police department’s Accident Investigation Unit said Wallace had alcohol and cocaine in his system. Wallace could have been traveling more than 80 mph – more than 45 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour when the accident occurred.

Booksing said it took so long for the charges to be filed because of tests and video evidence used to confirm the speed of Wallace’s vehicle.

Wallace is not yet in custody.
