Cheering in support

Cheering in support

Columbiana County Republican Party Chairman Dave Johnson of Salem, a Republican National Convention delegate, had a sore throat Wednesday.

That’s because, he said, he was yelling at the Pennsylvania delegation sitting in front of the Ohio group at the Republican National Convention at Quicken Loans Arena.

Some delegates from Pennsylvania were trash-talking Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Johnson said.

“They were saying, ‘Where’s your governor?” Johnson said.

And they said that, among other things, when Johnson cheered in support of states that had delegates supporting Kasich, who ran for president, but finished in fourth place.

Ohio was the only state Kasich won, capturing its 66 delegates. In total, he received 161 delegates.

Kasich has refused to endorse Trump and has made appearances in Cleveland, but not at the Q.

Very quick lunch

Where did Eric and Donald Trump Jr. grab a very quick lunch Wednesday? The Winking Lizard on East 9th Street in Cleveland.

The two spent about 20 minutes eating there after Donald Jr. made a few media appearances.

There were accompanied by four Secret Service agents, including one who stood outside the restaurant/bar because the private room where they ate had a glass-enclosed wall.

‘City of Champions’

If you didn’t know that the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA title, nearly every person who speaks to the Ohio delegation at its daily breakfasts as well as numerous people at the convention tells you.

In an apparent effort to top others, a few speakers refer to Cleveland as the “City of Champions.”

Until the Cavs captured the NBA title a month ago, the last championship in a major sport won by a Cleveland team was the Browns in 1964.

Watch party planned

The Mahoning County Democratic Party will host a Democratic National Convention watch party from 7 to 11 p.m. next Thursday at the Hillary Clinton campaign headquarters at 4927 Market St. in Boardman.

That is the last day of the convention in Philadelphia, and Clinton will deliver her acceptance speech that night.

Production continues

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and its partners on the 3-D-printed, life-size bobblehead production of Hillary Clinton for the presidential debate will continue despite the change of venue for the debate.

The September debate was to be hosted at Wright State University in Dayton, but the university has pulled out as host. Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., will host the debate.

The chamber hasn’t decided if it will bring both the Clinton and a life-size 3-D-printed Donald Trump bobblehead to the new debate venue.
