POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

July 12

Felonious assault: A witness told police that a 16-year-old Poland boy had been assaulted in the 6900 block of Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road. He was injured.

July 13

Harassment: Two Clyde Street women said they have been harassed.

July 16

Criminal damaging: Lawn ornaments sustained $500 in damage at a residence in the 7500 block of Lee Run Road.

BOARDMAN

July 14

Arrest: Police arrested a 14-year-old township boy on a misdemeanor inducing-panic charge after having investigated a bomb threat April 8 at Paul C. Bunn Elementary School, 1825 Sequoya Drive.

Theft: Authorities charged 54-year-old Janice S. Robbins of Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, in the theft of $584 worth of clothing from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Theft/criminal damaging: A man in the 400 block of Boardman-Canfield Road reported a window broken on his vehicle and that his wallet had been stolen.

Identity theft: A Halbert Drive woman discovered her credit card had been used to make $1,076 worth of fraudulent purchases in the Port St. Lucie, Fla., area.

Theft: A $95 tent, makeup, a pair of sunglasses and $25 were taken from a car in the 1100 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Counterfeit: An Indianola Road man told officers that after having responded to an email advertisement, he received a $1,986 cashiers check later determined likely to be fake.

Theft: A Struthers man reported a backpack, a pair of shoes, $10 and an iPhone charger missing from his locker at a McClurg Road business.

Theft: Lavette Boone of North Fruit Street, Youngstown, was charged after police alleged the 51-year-old Boone had stolen a wall thermostat and a clock from Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd.

July 15

Burglary: To a home in the 1100 block of Meadow Lane after someone had kicked in a side door. Two TVs, $600, seven speakers and a vacuum cleaner were taken.

Arrest: After being pulled over near Southern Boulevard, 55-year-old Anthony O. Averette of Mercer Street, Youngstown, was charged with endangering children and operating a vehicle impaired. Averette’s blood-alcohol count was 0.144, which exceeds Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, and three juveniles were in the car, a report stated.

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 900 block of Larkridge Avenue tossed eggs and struck a vehicle.

Criminal damaging: A Euclid Boulevard man saw that someone had spray-painted the back of his garage. He also noticed that a swastika had been spray-painted on his next-door neighbor’s shed.

Theft: A woman reported a power washer and a ladder stolen while at her father’s home in the 200 block of Shields Road.

Identity theft: A Griswold Drive man told police he received a letter from the Social Security Administration informing the accuser that someone had changed his address and phone number without authorization.

Theft: Two men reportedly stole three desktop computers from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, costing the business $1,947.

July 16

Assault: A Youngstown woman told police another woman struck her head during an argument about relationship issues at a home in the 100 block of Clifton Drive.

Criminal damaging: A doorbell panel was damaged at a residence in the 1900 block of Wolosyn Circle.

Felonious assault: Austintown police handed to township authorities 55-year-old Brian D. Murray of Canfield Road, Youngstown, who faced a felonious-assault charge related to a July 14 incident at a Southern Boulevard big-box store in which a witness alleged having seen Murray repeatedly striking another man, knocking him unconscious, during a fight regarding money Murray said the victim owed him.

Theft: Lisa J. Villone-Melek, 50, faced a theft charge after officers claimed Villone-Melek, of Fieldstone Avenue, Poland, had stolen 30 items valued at $228 from Walmart.

Theft: A woman discovered an Xbox game console, controllers and eight games as well as a 40-inch flat-screen TV missing from her Mathews Road residence. The loss was estimated at $1,166.

Felonious assault/criminal damaging: A Willow Drive man alleged his girlfriend had swung a knife toward him, resulting in a small cut as he grabbed the weapon, then tossed a brick and damaged his car’s bumper as he tried to get out of harm’s way after he had decided to end their relationship.

Theft: An employee with a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant reported her cellphone stolen. Also, members of a party reportedly left the eatery without paying a $103 food bill, she told police.

Fraud: An Appleridge Circle man told authorities that someone who answered an advertisement he had posted on Craigslist to sell patio furniture for $150 sent him a $1,400 check that a bank later determined was fraudulent.

Theft: Authorities charged 64-year-old Louise Jacobs of Hillman Street, Youngstown, with stealing a flashlight and a bar of soap from Family Dollar, 4030 Market St.

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 7600 block of Market Street resulted in the arrest of 46-year-old Kristen L. Sailor of Tracy Drive, Boardman, on charges of possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments. A matchbox containing suspected heroin, along with needles, several spoons with burn marks common in drug use and other contraband was found, a report showed.

Stolen property: Authorities on Doral Drive took into custody 54-year-old Dean M. Reardon of West Parke Street, Hermitage, Pa., on two felony counts of receiving stolen property when, they alleged, Reardon had on his vehicle a license plate that had been stolen in Pinellas County, Fla. In addition, Reardon was wanted on several felony charges from Sarasota County, Fla.

July 17

Theft by deception: Youngstown police relinquished custody of 44-year-old George W. Robinson to township authorities. Robinson, of Bott Street, Youngstown, was charged with theft by deception related to a Jan. 15 incident in which a woman in the 5400 block of South Avenue reported someone had written a $50 check to a Canfield business that was returned on a closed account.

Menacing: Two Terraview Drive residents said a neighbor had threatened them.

Theft/vandalism: A vehicle’s passenger-side door was damaged and a $170 stereo was taken in the 7100 block of Trenholm Road.

Aggravated menacing: A Mathews Road man reported having received a series of threatening text messages.

Breaking and entering: Three males reportedly entered a garage and vehicles in the 4200 block of Chester Drive before fleeing on foot when the homeowner approached. Stolen were three packs of cigarettes and $80.

Menacing: A worker for a Doral Drive big-box store said a man entered and yelled at him, apparently after having been angered because of the accuser’s brother’s relationship with another person.

Criminal damaging: A woman in the 6600 block of Glendale Avenue noticed all of her car’s tires had been slashed and flattened.

Domestic violence: Jamar Austin, 35, of Melrose Avenue, Boardman, was charged with the crime after a woman alleged Austin struck the back of her head during an altercation that apparently started after the victim had removed an item from a TV.

July 18

Threats: Justin M. Barker, 25, of Bonnie Place, Boardman, was charged with making domestic-violence threats after a woman alleged Barker had threatened to kill her during their break-up.

Theft: A West Boulevard man noticed a garbage can missing from his yard.

Domestic violence: Brian K. Richendollar, 44, of Hitchcock Road, Boardman, faced a felony domestic-violence charge after his wife alleged Richendollar struck and tackled her, resulting in several minor injuries, during a fight that had escalated between them.

Theft: Cynthia L. Williams, 68, of West Martin Street, East Palestine, was charged with taking seven items valued at $217 from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A West Boulevard woman told officers someone removed her son’s $300, four-wheel electric-toy vehicle from their carport.

Identity theft: A Warren woman learned that her credit card had been used without consent to make $910 worth of unauthorized purchases when her card was swiped at a Kentwood Drive doctor’s office.

Theft: A trash can was taken from a home in the 800 block of Stuart Avenue.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a residence in the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue, then removed copper piping from the basement.

Domestic violence: Officers took custody of 44-year-old Leby H. Sassya of Stanley Drive, Vienna, who was wanted on a domestic-violence charge. A woman told police Sassya had struck her son’s arm and face during a custody exchange late last month at a South Avenue big-box store.
