Trumbull commissioners expected to pay additional $262,671 for sewer engineering

WARREN

The Trumbull County commissioners are expected today to approve an increase of $262,671 in the amount the engineering company Thomas Fok & Associates will earn for engineering and inspection services associated with the Squaw Creek sanitary sewer project in Vienna Township.

The company will now make $464,617.

It was one of two sewer projects constructed at the same time by Marucci and Gaffney Excavating of Youngstown that ran into controversy over alleged construction flaws that another company was hired to fix.

The county sued Marucci and Gaffney, and the lawsuit is still pending.

Gary Newbrough, project planning director for the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer’s Office, said Thomas Fok & Associates had to work an additional 18 months on the project, including additional inspection and project administration, to get it completed because of the construction problems.
