GOP CONVENTION | Speaker urges pro-Kasich Ohio delegates to support Trump

CLEVELAND (AP) — House Speaker Paul Ryan is urging the John Kasich-loyal Ohio delegation to start rooting for Donald Trump.

The Wisconsin Republican who attended Miami University in Ohio told the delegates today at a delegation breakfast that voting for anyone other than Trump is the same as voting for Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Kasich has declined to endorse Trump, and the 66-delegate Ohio group is loaded with loyalists of their second-term governor.

Delegate Greg Hartmann of Cincinnati liked Ryan’s message. He says he doesn’t agree with everything Trump says, but says it’s time to get together behind Trump.

He says Ohio will play an important role in electing the next president, and the delegates need to help build a winning GOP campaign.

Ryan even led an “O-H, I-O,” Ohio State University Buckeye cheer.
