GOP CONVENTION | Plagiarism? "We know nothing."

CLEVELAND

When it comes to partial plagiarism by Melania Trump at the Republican National Convention, a number of party leaders say they know

nothing about the issue.

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman from the Cincinnati area said he hasn't “seen the reporting on” the controversy, but he “liked the speech.”

U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson of Marietta, R-6th, said, “I haven't heard a word about it.”

But Columbiana County Republican Chairman Dave Johnson of Salem, a convention delegate, said, “I woke up this morning and see the exact wording and I'm just blown away. Somebody needs to be fired for this. It's not her fault. She relied on others though she had input.”

The speech given Monday by the wife of Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, had two largely identical passages as Michelle Obama's speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

The Trump campaign issued a statement that didn't address the plagiarism controversy, saying it included “fragments that reflected her own

thinking.”

CNN is reporting that no one in the Trump campaign will be fired or disciplined over this.
