South Side Youngstown neighborhood groups, The 6th Ward Citizens Coalition and Taft Promise Neighborhood, are offering a health fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Metro Assembly Church, 2530 South Ave., designed to encourage healthy lifestyles and family fun through fitness.

The free event includes free health food, giveaways, prizes, a dental van, Zumba, kids fitness, face painting, a bounce around, and carnival games. Mercy Health is offering ‘Know Your Number Health Screenings’ for cholesterol and triglycerides; blood pressure screening will also be provided, for which participants must fast at least 12 hours before the test.

Seniors driving course

POLAND

Shepherd of the Valley is inviting drivers 60 and over to signup for the AAA Safe Driving for Mature Operators Course, a state-certified course, offered Aug. 9 and 11 at SOV’s Poland community, 301 W. Western Reserve Road. The deadline for registration, which is required, is Aug. 1.

The course is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day with an hour for lunch, reservations for which must be made when signing up for the class. The cost is $10 for AAA members and $15 for non-members. The course is approved for insurance discounts by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles under Ohio’s Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention Course for Drivers 60 and over. Safe Sitter program

YOUNGSTOWN

Mercy Health – Youngstown is accepting registrations for the Safe Sitter program Aug. 16 and 17 at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Safe Sitter teaches boys and girls, 11 to 13, basic first aid, rescue breathing, accident prevention, childcare tips, what to do if a child chokes and how and when to call for help.

The cost is $28.50. Scholarships are available for those who meet financial eligibility requirements. For information or to register, call 330-480-3070.

Breast disease discussion

YOUNGSTOWN

Dr. Nancy Gantt, M.D., FACS, a general surgeon with Mercy Health – Youngstown who specializes in breast disease, will discuss dense breasts and what the condition means for women from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., during a meeting of Joanie’s Sisters in Support Sorority. Doris Bullock, a certified personal trainer, will lead the group in stretching and relaxation activities.
