A Warren man faces felony charges after purportedly robbing someone at gunpoint outside a township business.
Jeremiah Allen, 23, of Reo Boulevard, is charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping for the incident reported Friday, according to a police report.
Allen is accused of holding a gun to a man’s head and taking $1,100 from him during the course of a “money transaction” they were conducting outside a business on Meridian Road, the victim reported to police.
Allen then reportedly fled in a vehicle with two other people.
The vehicle was stopped by police in Youngstown.
Allen was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
Road to close
FREDERICKTOWN
State Route 170 will be closed Monday for a bridge replacement over Little Beaver Creek at Fredericktown in Columbiana County.
The road will be closed for 115 days and traffic will be detoured on state Route 154 west to state Route 11 south (U.S. Route 30 east), back to state Route 170, and reverse.
Work began on the $2.5 million project, replacing the existing 1930, four-span, concrete box-beam bridge with a new, single-span, steel plate girder structure between Calcutta and Negley in June.
The road is expected to be reopened to traffic by mid-November; however, the project’s overall completion date is May 31, 2017.
ODOT’s contractor for the project is Shelly and Sands Inc. of Columbus.
Man shot in back
WARREN
The Warren Police Department reports that an Oak Street Southwest man, 21, was found with a gunshot wound to the back suffered at 494 Arnold Drive SW on Sunday afternoon.
Police found the man outside in the 1:16 p.m. incident, and he was transported to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police provided no other information.
2 women report rapes
WARREN
Two women reported rapes in the city early Sunday.
A city woman, 20, reported being raped in the 200 block of East Market Street at 1 a.m., and a Leavittsburg woman, 45, reported being raped at 2 a.m. in the 3000 block of Parkman Road Southwest.
Police reports give no other information about the nature of the assaults except that one of the women was interviewed at a local hospital and that the other woman knew her attacker.
Facing drug charges
BOARDMAN
A township woman faces drug charges after a traffic stop Saturday morning on Market Street.
Kristin Sailor, 46, of Tracy Drive, is charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police stopped Sailor as she was speeding on Southwoods Avenue. After police saw a capped needle in the vehicle and questioned her, police searched the car and found the suspected heroin and other drug instruments.
Sailor was taken to the Mahoning County jail pending an appearance today in county area court here.
Sobriety checkpoints
AUSTINTOWN
One arrest for a person operating a vehicle impaired resulted from two sobriety checkpoints conducted by the Mahoning County OVI Task Force and Ohio State Highway Patrol this past weekend.
The first checkpoint was at 1051 S. Raccoon Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 12 a.m. Saturday.
The second checkpoint was at 7878 New Road from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. Sunday.
A total of 496 vehicles passed through the checkpoints and two task force officers conducted 10 traffic stops during saturation patrol.
Enforcement activity was as follows: two summonses for driving under suspension, one citation for adult restraint, one summons for drug abuse and one citation for not having a motorcycle license.
Program finale event

The fifth Annual Inspiring Minds Summer Enrichment Program finale event will take place from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Warren G. Harding High School, 860 Elm Road NE.
During the free six-week program, students in third through 12th grades participated in continuing education to prevent summer-learning loss, including art, sports, swimming lessons, yoga, community service, college visits, industry tours, cooking lessons, field trips and more.
In attendance at the event will be parents, community supporters, and committed partners, including Mayor Doug Franklin and Warren City Community Development, Warren City Schools, General Motors, Kent State University Trumbull, AVI Food Systems, state Rep. Sean O’Brien of Bazetta, D-63rd, United Way of Trumbull County, The Raymond John Wean Foundation, Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority, and more.

Flags at half-staff
COLUMBUS
Gov. John R. Kasich on Monday ordered all flags be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state until sunset Friday to honor the law-enforcement officers killed in Baton Rouge, La.
Kasich issued the order in accordance with orders from President Barack Obama to fly the flags at half-staff as a mark of respect for the police officers.
Truck accident
COITSVILLE
The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to an accident on state Route 616 Monday night after a truck reportedly overturned on that road. The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m., just south of McGuffey Road. No other information was available before press time.
$10K grant to Habitat
YOUNGSTOWN
Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Bank of America.
This award will help HFHMV work on its mission of building homes, communities and hope in Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The grant is provided from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation and will enable HFHMV to support affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization.
