Scrappers rally for win in Auburn

AUBURN, N.Y.

One day after their season-high four-game winning streak was snapped, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers returned to the win column.

The Scrappers (11-19) rallied for three runs over the final three innings for a comeback 3-2 win over the Auburn Doubledays (14-16) on Sunday in New York-Penn League action.

Auburn scored twice in the first inning. Blake Perkins was hit by a pitch and scored on Jack Sundberg’s RBI triple. Sundberg scored on a wild pitch.

The two runs were the first allowed this season by Scrappers starter Aaron Civale.

With two outs in the seventh, Jodd Carter singled and Erlin Cerda walked. Emmanuel Tapia and Gavin Collins contributed RBI singles to tie the game, 2-2.

In the ninth inning, Carter tripled to center field and Cerda followed with an RBI sacrifice fly for the winning run.

Civale took a no decision in threeinnings of work. He allowed two earned runs on just one hit. Civale did not walk a batter and struck out two.

Tanner Tully followed with four shutout innings of relief. Tully allowed one hit while walking one and striking out one.

Michael Letkewicz (2-0) earned the win in two innings of relief. He allowed one hit and walked two. Letkewicz struck out four, including all three he faced in the ninth.
