14 shot outside party in California

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.

Attackers have wounded 14 people, two critically, in a shooting after a party in California’s Central Valley.

It happened shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday in Bakersfield.

Kern County Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt tells KNX-AM radio that homeowners allowed their daughter to host the party. She promoted it on social media, and about 150 people arrived – many uninvited.

The parents broke up the party, and the visitors – mainly 15- to 18-year-olds – streamed into the front yard and street.

Pruitt says that’s when three people came up the street and opened fire on the crowd. At least one person reportedly fired back.

People were hit in the arms, legs and chest. The critically injured are expected to survive.

Authorities say the attack may have been gang-related.

SpaceX to launch docking port

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.

SpaceX aims to launch another load of space-station supplies for NASA, including a critical docking port needed by new U.S. crew capsules set to debut next year.

The unmanned Falcon rocket is scheduled to lift off early Monday. Excellent weather is forecast for the 12:45 a.m. launch.

Aboard the rocket is a replica of the docking port destroyed in a SpaceX launch accident last summer. This is port No. 2. NASA needs at least one and preferably two of these ports for crew capsules under development by both SpaceX and Boeing. Americans have been stuck riding Russian rockets to the International Space Station since shuttles stopped flying five years ago this month.

SpaceX will try to land its leftover booster back at Cape Canaveral.

The Four Seasons, home of the original power lunch, closes

NEW YORK

It’s the end of an era. The Four Seasons restaurant, birthplace of the New York City power lunch, is closing.

After serving a “must see” crowd of business executive and celebrities for 57 years, the Philip Johnson-designed restaurant served its last meals Saturday.

Housed in the Seagram Building on Park Avenue, its regulars included Henry Kissinger, Nora Ephron and Tom Wolfe.

In recent days, selfies posted online captured some patrons and staff splashing in the pool that graced the center of the dining room.

A new Four Seasons will open nearby following 18 months of renovation.

But those nostalgic for the original Four Season have a chance to buy a piece of it. Some of its furnishings, including flatware and barstools, go on the auction block July 26.

Sheriff: Escaped murder suspect armed, has help

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.

Investigators believe a Florida murder suspect who escaped from a courtroom is armed and has help.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Saturday his detectives have information that indicates 21-year-old Dayonte Resiles has obtained a weapon and is getting assistance. He said search warrants are being served, but Resilies could be anywhere.

Resiles escaped Friday from the Broward courthouse. He was awaiting a hearing when he somehow escaped his shackles, jumped a courtroom barrier and ran past bailiffs. He shed his jail jumpsuit and ran outside.

Resiles faces murder charges in the September 2014 killing of Jill Halliburton Su, grand-niece of Halliburton Co. founder Erie P. Halliburton. Her body was found, bound at the hands and feet and stabbed multiple times, in the bathtub of her home in Davie, Fla.
