Scrappers keep up win streak
STATE COLLEGE, PA.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers kept their season high winning streak going on Friday night with an 8-5 win over the State College Spikes. With the win the Scrappers also picked up their second straight series win.
With one out in the third, Andrew Calica doubled to right for his second hit of the game. Michael Tinsley followed with a ground rule double to center to score Calica for a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning the Scrappers would add on another run. With one out Logan Ice walked and moved to second on an Emmanuel Tapia single. Ice would then come in to score on a Yonathan Mendoza RBI single for a 3-1 lead.
Just like Thursday night, the Scrappers would pull away in the top of the seventh inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, Jodd Carter would double to drive in two runs. Two more would score when Erlin Cerda reached base on a throwing error by Spikes third baseman Danny Hudzina. After the top of the seventh the Scrappers led 7-1 and would add an insurance run in the eighth.
State College would make a run in the bottom of the ninth inning. They would plate three runs and would bring the tying run into the on deck circle before Ryan Perez would get a ground out of Andy Young to end the game.
Juan Hillman started and took a no decision in four innings of work. Hillman allowed three hits and one unearned run. He walked three and struck out two to lower his ERA to 0.89. Ryan Colegate (1-2) earned the win with two-and-two-thirds innings of relief. He allowed one earned run on two hits.
