Perry releases ‘Rise’

Perry releases ‘Rise’

Katy Perry has released a new single that marks her first new music since her smash 2013 album, “Prism.”

Perry delivers soaring vocals on the song, “Rise,” to match inspirational lyrics, which include the line, “Victory is in your veins.”

The song is being released ahead of next month’s Olympics, and Perry says NBC has chosen to use it as an anthem for the Rio Games.

Perry also has put out a video for the song featuring Olympic athletes, including Gabrielle Douglas, Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt.

Perry explains in a statement that she released the song now instead of waiting for her next album because there’s “a need for the world to unite.”

The actress and Coldplay frontman married in December 2003 and have two children together, age 12 and 10.

‘SNL’ star thanks Whoopi Goldberg

NEW YORK

“Saturday Night Live” and “Ghostbusters” star Leslie Jones gets emotional around Whoopi Goldberg.

Jones thanked the co-host of “The View” on Thursday’s show and said she “cried so hard” when she saw Goldberg on TV for the first time.

Jones said seeing a black woman gave her the confidence that she could be on TV one day, too. She said she loves Goldberg for what she’s done for black women and black comedians.

Jones said she knows her appearance in the “Ghostbusters” reboot also will make her an inspiration to little girls.

The all-female “Ghostbusters” opened nationwide Friday.
