Prayer service
YOUNGSTOWN
The Knights of Columbus will sponsor a prayer service at 7 p.m. July 25 in St. Columba Cathedral, Wood Street, followed by a reception in the hall. Monsignor Robert Siffrin will welcome the Knights of Columbus on behalf of Bishop Murry and lead the prayer service.
The prayer service is part of the Pilgrimage of the Silver Rose project, which began in 1960 to promote devotion to the Blessed Mother, to promote the cause of Juan Diego to be recognized as a saint, and to pray for respect of human life.
Juan Diego was declared a saint in Mexico on July 31, 2002, by the late Pope John Paul II (now Saint John Paul II). The silver rose is symbolic of the miraculous gift of flowers that Juan Diego brought to the local bishop as a sign of his message from Mary.
The public is invited to attend.
Labyrinth walk
VILLA MARIA, PA.
Villa Maria will host the first Guided Labyrinth Walk of the season Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the grounds of its Community Center.
The ongoing series will take place monthly through October.
Participants are invited to meet at the outdoor Labyrinth at 6:30 p.m. to prayerfully walk the grass path after receiving thematic instructions from the presenter.
The Labyrinth at Villa Maria is a replica of the one at Chartres Cathedral in France.
A Labyrinth, unlike a maze, has one path in and returns on the same path to exit; in essence, winding and unwinding around four quadrants of a circle.
Labyrinths were used as a walking meditation for the spiritual seeker.
Guided Labyrinth Walks are offered at no charge. Offerings are accepted to help continue services that VMESC offers.
In the event of questionable weather conditions, call 724-964-8886 for program status. Additional program information and program status also is available at vmesc.org.
Villa Maria is roughly one mile from the Pennsylvania/Ohio state line. Take U.S. route 422 to Evergreen Road.
