2 injured in crash in North Lima

NORTH LIMA

Two people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Market Street Friday night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported. The driver of one of the vehicles was cited for failure to yield, as he reportedly pulled out in front of a vehicle traveling northbound on Market Street near Steamers Tavern. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was uninjured. The other vehicle overturned, causing minor injuries, the OSHP reported.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving a motorcycle that occurred at South Avenue and Simon Road Friday night. OSHP confirmed that they were called to the scene at about 7:30 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash. Injuries were reported, but information on how many people were injured and the severity of their injuries was not immediately available.

Youngstown agency gets rape-crisis grant

COLUMBUS

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine awarded 28 rape crisis centers in the state, including one in Youngstown, with more than $1.4 million in grant funding provided from Ohio’s Rape Crisis Program Trust Fund, administered by the attorney general’s office.

Each agency will receive a grant of $45,803, including Compass Family and Community Services, which has its administrative offices on Marmion Avenue on Youngstown’s South Side. According to its website, Compass provides services in four core areas: residential services, workforce development/financial stability, outpatient services (including a rape crisis and counseling center) and administrative support services.

5 female prisoners overdose on heroin

MANSFIELD

Authorities say five northern Ohio inmates had to be hospitalized for suspected heroin overdoses.

The female inmates were initially treated at the Mansfield jail Thursday night and were revived with the overdose reversal drug, naloxone. All were taken to an area hospital.

Authorities say tampon insert tubes apparently used to ingest the drugs were discovered in the bathroom of the housing unit where the inmates were found along with a cellphone.

Drug charges are pending.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office says it will ask lawmakers to change a law and allow corrections officers to strip search inmates.
