Shot but breathing

WARREN

A city man, 37, and a city woman, 31, were found shot but breathing and speaking to officers in a 1:01 a.m. Thursday incident on Wick Street Southeast.

Both victims were described as having a “major injury.” Police provided no other information.

Ridge coach indicted

MINERAL RIDGE

A Mahoning County grand jury Thursday indicted a teacher and coach in the Weathersfield School District on charges of intercepting wire or electronic communications, possessing criminal tools and voyeurism for purportedly secretly recording a former member of his track team as she was undressing.

Two of the charges are felonies and the third is a misdemeanor.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, Matthew K. Blair, 45, of Cedarwood Drive, Mineral Ridge, is the girl’s track coach and a seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher at Mineral Ridge High School. Prosecutors say a woman in her early 20s was at Blair’s Mineral Ridge home in May when he reportedly used a clock radio equipped with a spy camera to record video of the woman when she was nude.

Courtney Road closure

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Engineer’s Office will close a portion of Courtney Road in Smith Township for up to two days next week for a culvert replacement.

County Engineer Patrick T. Ginnetti said during Thursday’s Mahoning County commissioners’ meeting that about one-tenth mile of the rural road just east of Bandy Road will be closed Wednesday and Thursday for the replacement, which will precede paving work.

Motorists can detour around the closure by traveling north or south on Bandy and Johnson roads or taking nearby state Route 14, Ginnetti said.

Crash cuts power

JOHNSTON

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that snapped a utility pole and sent two people to the hospital shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the state patrol says a car ran a stop sign at Ridge and Bradley-Brownlee roads. One of the cars smashed into a utility pole, cutting power to several homes in the area. One victim was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment; the other to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, the patrol said in a news release.

Kids used to shoplift

BOARDMAN

Police arrested three Youngstown adults Wednesday for purportedly using three children to help them shoplift at the Boardman Walmart.

Charles Lynch, 22, Teondrea Waller, 30, and Aveante King, 22, all face charges of theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.

Officers were called to the Walmart on Doral Drive after receiving reports the adults had taken several dozen items. According to the police report, the adults, alongside three young children, walked around the store concealing items inside their purses.

Employees detained the suspects as they tried to leave the store with what police say were 84 items worth $501.13.

The children, ages 7, 8, and 15, were turned over to a family member.
