New streetlights coming to Canfield neighborhood

Staff report

CANFIELD

City council authorized officials to take out a $165,000 loan to install streetlights in the Kings Lane subdivision.

Joe Warino, city manager, said residents on various streets behind Kings Lane, including those on Queens Lane, Colonial Drive, Majestic Court and Squires Court, requested streetlights for their neighborhoods.

He said the loan cost will be assessed on the taxes for those residents the next five years.

In other news, Warino said progress on a North Broad Street project to widen the area between Dartmouth and Sleepy Hollow drives will be delayed until next spring.

He said an Ohio Department of Transportation representative said project estimates were coming in 30 percent over the city’s $1.6 million calculation.

Council also passed an ordinance prohibiting parking on a portion of West Main Street.

The ordinance said those parking near the intersection of West Main Street and Cardinal Drive create a traffic hazard, which caused council to make the new restriction.

No parking is prohibited on the north side of West Main next to Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main.
