YOUNGSTOWN

A man charged with a 2014 homicide and a 2015 shooting entered guilty pleas in both cases Thursday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

DeAngelo Young, 22, pleaded guilty to a charge of murder in the Nov. 23, 2014, killing of Devon Damous, 22, and an unrelated Aug. 4, 2015, shooting that left a man paralyzed. He was not indicted for the homicide until May of this year.

Young was sentenced immediately to 15 years to life in prison by Judge Shirley J. Christian.

In the homicide case, Young entered his guilty plea to murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of 15 years to life. In the shooting case, Young entered guilty pleas to charges of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, aggravated robbery and kidnapping with firearms specifications.

Judge Christian ran the sentence in the shooting case concurrent with the sentence in the murder case.

Damous was found shot to death about 9:45 p.m. inside a van in the drive of a home in the 700 block of Lexington Avenue on the North Side.

In the other case, Young was charged with the Aug. 4, 2015, shooting of Kamron Miller while the victim was in his car near the intersection of Market Street and Avondale Avenue on the South Side. Miller was paralyzed in the shooting.

In February, Young was captured in Youngstown after he escaped from a mental-health facility in Massillon. Young was at the hospital for restoration to competency to stand trial and aid in his defense.
