Children participated in Mother Goose Olympics on June 14 at the Poland library.

Annette Ahrens, a Poland librarian, put the event together and based the games off of different nursery rhymes. Games included a “Humpty Dumpty” egg-on-a-spoon race, an “Itsy Bitsy Spider” toss and several others.

The children were given a paper with the different games listed. Once the children finished each game, they could mark it off with a sheep sticker to show they completed it. The sheep stickers were hidden around the room and the children had to find them before they could mark of a game they completed.

“Even the snacks have nursery rhymes associated with them,” said Ahrens.

There was a craft table set up with materials needed to create a medal. The children could make their own medal after they completed the games to wear. A podium was made for the children to stand on with their medals and get a picture as if they finished in first place.

The games were a way to bring nursery rhymes to life and gave the children an opportunity to have fun participating in a game while relating it to a story.
