Canfield 6, Wheelersburg 5

Canfield fought back from a 5-3 deficit in the bottom of sixth to down Wheelersburg and advance to the state championship today vs. Tallmadge at 6 p.m. It will be a rematch of the 2014 state tournament when the girls were in the 9-10 division.
In the sixth, Canfield’s Kylie Ciccolelli reached first on error and Alaina Havrilla singled. Then, with two runners on, Mia Opalick doubled to score two runs and tie the game.
Following, with one out, Lizzie Ferraro singled and Emma Castronova walked to load the bases. Then, Bayann Jadallah hit a walk-off double with two outs to win the game.
Lauren Fitzgerald pitched six innings for the win.
Canfield, coming from the losers bracket, will need to win two games against Tallmadge to win the championship.
13-U Baseball
Poland takes third at state
Poland’s 13-U baseball team finished third at the state tournament on Monday in Cuyahoga Falls. It lost to North Canton in the Little League Intermediate Division semifinals as its season came to an end with a 16-2 record. Poland went 14-0 as it won the district tournament at Boardman, before going 2-2 at state. To open the state tournament, Poland beat Ellet Akron and Mason. Team members are: Jacob Caudle, Vinny Cercel, Josh Christie, Ian Francis, Sam James, Anthony Koulianos, Tom Landry, Carmen Lefoer, Elliott Lu, Dominic Parker, Anthony Perry, Mason Planey, Brody Todd and Nate Williams. The Manager is John Pelles, while coaches are Anthony Perry, Scott Todd and Ryan Williams.
