Service-connected disabled veterans may be eligible for an annual clothing allowance of $777 if their clothing has been damaged by prosthetics or orthopedic devices, such as a wheelchair, or if skin condition medication damages clothes. Injured in fire

BROOKFIELD

Multiple units from Ohio and Pennsylvania aided the Brookfield Fire Department extinguish a fire reported late Wednesday afternoon that damaged a home at 1304 Custer-Orangeville Road in Trumbull County and sent one person to the hospital. It is unknown if the injured person was an occupant of the home or a firefighter. According to the Trumbull County 911 Center, the fire was reported at 5:19 p.m. and the last fire unit left the scene at about 8 p.m. The cause is under investigation and the amount of damage was unknown late Wednesday.

Annie’s law

Mothers Against Drunk Driving wants Ohio to pass “Annie’s Law,” the key component of which requires ignition interlocks for all drunken driving offenders, including first-offenders who seek driving privileges. According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, a study by MADD says lives are being saved in states that have the Law. The device requires the offender to pass a breath test before the vehicle will start. UPI in Boardman supplies and installs them. Annie’s Law is dedicated to Annie Rooney of Cincinnati, who was struck and killed by a drunken driver July 4, 2013.

Exhibition deadline

WARREN

Saturday is the deadline for submitting artwork for Trumbull Art Gallery’s 52nd annual juried exhibition for regional artists scheduled to run July 23 through Aug. 26.

Entries can be dropped off between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at TAG, 158-162 N. Park Ave, Warren. TAG Annual is a juried exhibition for regional artists. The juror is James Pernotto. The opening reception for the event is from 6 to 9 p.m. July 23. The exhibition is open to regional artists living within a 100-mile radius of Trumbull County who are at least 18. Work in any medium will be considered. Two works per artist may be entered, with a third entry for an additional fee. Two-dimension artwork must be ready for hanging. There is no size restriction.

Steel strike lecture

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Historic Center of Industry and Labor will host a free event with author Ahmed White, professor of law at the University of Colorado Boulder at 1 p.m. Saturday. He will discuss his book, “The Last Great Strike: Little Steel, the CIO, and the Struggle for Labor Rights in New Deal America.” The Little Steel Strike of 1937 was part of an effort to establish collective bargaining in the mass-production industries at the heart of America’s depressed economy. Seating is limited. Light refreshments will be served.

Search for gun

BOARDMAN

Police continue searching for a gun reported missing Monday evening from a Washington Boulevard apartment. The victim said the gun went missing between July 3 and Sunday while the victim was on vacation. The missing items included a loaded semiautomatic compact pistol and an Amazon TV stick. The victim told police the weapon was in a gun box inside a closet. The only person who could have entered the apartment was a friend who had access to it, the victim said. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.

Van driver injured

LORDSTOWN

The male driver of a van was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle veered off Tod Avenue Southwest just south of Hewitt-Gifford Road, struck the “Welcome to Lordstown” sign, and rolled over, coming to rest on its wheels off the highway.

After working to revive the driver, first responders called for a medical helicopter to take him to hospital. The only person injured in the crash, which occurred at about 3 p.m., was not identified by the Lordstown Police Department, which is investigating the accident, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
